President’s Message

September 4, 2014

Bill Price, Chapter President

Compatriots,

After a busy summer, Chapter meetings resume this month (September). I look forward to seeing you again at our next meeting. In the meantime, there are five items I would like to bring to your immediate attention. Other events will be discussed at a future meeting and in the Member News section of our web site.

First, the 2014 National Congress was held July 19-24 in Greenville, South Carolina. Fairfax Resolves was represented by Larry McKinley, Darrin Schmidt, and Jeff Thomas. Thank you, gentlemen, for your representation at the National Congress.

Second, I am pleased to announce to you that our Chapter and Virginia Society winner of the Rumbaugh Orations Contest, Miss Hayley Snowden, is now also the National Orations Champion for 2014. Updated photos from the National Congress have been posted here. I have sent congratulatory notes on behalf of the Chapter to Hayley, her parents Ernest and Joan Snowden, and to Hayley’s coach at Trinity Christian School, Cody Phillips. Congratulations, Hayley!

Third, our Virginia Society Semi-Annual meeting is September 19-20 at the Hyatt Fair Lakes in Fairfax, Virginia. The Hyatt Fair Lakes is venue convenient to most of our members, and provides a unique opportunity to meet compatriots from other Chapters and to learn about state-level functions within SAR. Registration is required, and you may access the form here. All are encouraged to attend.

Lastly, the Chapter is initiating two fall fund raisers. You may donate online from the Chapter website. Enter your donation amount in the “Add to cart” field on each fund raising page. If you elect to participate, remember that the Chapter incurs a 3% handling charge for all online donations.

The first fund raiser is for the Patriot Project. A donation of $1,000 (our goal) will place the name of Fairfax Resolves Chapter, SAR on the bronze donor plaque located at the site of the planned memorial. You can read more about the Patriot Project and donate here. The fund raiser will continue until we raise at least $1,000.

The second fund raiser is for the exhibit Magna Carta: Muse and Mentor at the Library of Congress. The exhibit begins November 6th, and runs through January 19, 2015. Fairfax Resolves has already raised $600 for the exhibit, and presented a check for these funds to Mr. Robert Newlen, Exhibit Director, at our May 2014 meeting. You can read more about Magna Carta: Muse and Mentor and donate here. The fund raiser will run until December 31, 2014.

Very respectfully,

William W. “Bill” Price, President

Fairfax Resolves, SAR
