Eagle Scout Scholarship
The Eagle Scout Scholarship Program is a youth program that honors our young men who attain the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts of America and is designed to promote leadership skills in our nation’s youth. The Fairfax Resolves Chapter participates in this program each year by acknowledging local Eagle Scouts with a certificate of recognition and encouraging them to enter into the scholarship program.

Michael Lazear
Michael attended the Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, VA this past summer where he learned about the Sons of the American Revolution Eagle Scout Scholarship. A quick search on the web led him to contact Fairfax Resolves Chapter website and President Jack Sweeney.
Michael is a senior in high school, and a member of a local scout troop. He attained his Eagle rank, in August 2009, and has held several leadership positions in the Troop. He has been patrol leader and Senior Patrol Leader, and he has earned 28 Merit Badges (7 over the 21 required for Eagle Scout). He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow.
As with all scholarship participants, Michael submitted a 4 generation Ancestor Chart and a 500 word essay with bibliography. He chose the “Declaration of Independence: Past and Present” as his essay topic.
As the Chapter winner, Michael received the Eagle Scout Medal, certificate and $100 in cash. His essay will be submitted to the State level competition where he competes for an additional award up to $1000. We wish Michael well in the State competition.

Fairfax Resolves presented Michael Lazear with the Eagle Scout medal, uniform patch, certificate, and check for $100. Larry McKinley (left) and President Jack Sweeney make the presentation. Darrin Schmidt (not pictured) also attended.
