The Joseph S. Rumbaugh
Historical Oration Contest 2008

The Fairfax Resolves Chapter winning oration for 2008 was presented by Gabriel Barrientos, a senior at Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School. Mr. Barrientos’s speech, entitled "Common Sense", presented his reasons for why the author of "Common Sense", a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine prior to the American Revolution, was the Patriot who had the biggest impact on the logical aspect of Independence.

Mr. Barrientos went on to win the state level orations contest and will compete in the National contest at the SAR annual congress in Sacramento. Good luck Mr. Barrientos!

Update!

Gabriel went on to Sacremento to compete against 13 other oration winners from around the country. Though he did not win, he did gain valuable experience by participating at the national level. Mr. Barrientos is eligible to compete again next year, so we wish him luck.
