A Message from the Chapter President....
Welcome to the website of the Fairfax Resolves Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. The Sons of the American Revolution is the largest male genealogical society in the country, chartered by an Act of the United States Congress, and dedicated to maintaining and extending the institutions of American freedom, patriotism, and respect for our national symbols.
We are one of Virginia’s largest and most active chapters. Chartered in 1979, our namesake honors the actions of 25 citizens of Fairfax County who, on July 18, 1774, unanimously adopted a series of resolutions rejecting the British Parliament’s claim of supreme authority over the American colonies. The Fairfax Resolves also called for the nonimportation of British goods, a congress of the colonies, and condemned the slave trade. They have been regarded as “the strongest documented stand against British oppression up to this time in America.”
Our chapter meets monthly from January through May, and again from September through December. Meetings feature speakers, authors, and presentations on a variety of subjects related to the American Revolution and early America.
In the community, we participate in a broad range of civic and patriotic events. We sponsor the annual commemorations of Patriots Day and Vietnam Veterans Day, the signing of the Fairfax Resolves at historic Pohick Church in Lorton, and participate in the marking of graves of Revolutionary War veterans. Our civic involvement incudes the recognition of the contributions Fairfax County first responders and youth programs such as Northern Virginia History Day, Scouting, oration, essay and poster contests.
We’d love to have you join us. Please see the How to Join page for the details on becoming a member.
