Fire Safety and Emergency Medical Services Awards
The Fairfax Resolves Chapter is proud to announce the presentation of the Fire Safety Medal to Technician Daniel Hahn of Fire and Rescue Station Fire Station 34-A Shift (Oakton, VA) for his outstanding commitment to professionalism, his colleagues and to furthering the abilities of his Fire Station. Technician Hahn is assigned as an apparatus technician at Station 34, and further serves the community through educational activities and other station roles unrelated to a specific emergency.
The Fairfax Resolves Chapter is proud to announce the presentation of the Emergency Medical Services Medal to Lt. Jennifer Svites of Fire and Rescue Station 22, A-Shift (Springfield, VA) for her outstanding commitment to her work and her mentoring of colleagues that particularly emphasizes her dedication to her profession. Lt Svites is currently a paramedic preceptor and has trained several paramedic students through their training and internship. She is also committed to continuing her personal education, taking prerequisite classes for a nursing degree.

Teacher and Citizen of the Year Awards
Brigitte K. Lavey, advanced placement world history and world studies teacher at Langley High School, McLean, Virginia was recognized by the Fairfax Resolves Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution as the 2010 Teacher of the Year for her extraordinary service to her students, fellow teachers and the overall educational environment at Langley High School. A short ceremony was held in December at a faculty meeting where Ms. Lavey received a framed certificate and Bronze Good Citizenship Medal.

The Citizen of the Year Award is used to recognize individuals who selflessly give of their time and energy for the benefit of others. Despite being an upstanding member of the SAR, Fairfax Resolves chose to honor one of its own as the 2010 Citizen of the Year Award recipient. Lawrence “Larry” McKinley not only clocks thousands of hours of community service each year, most of which are not directly related to the SAR, but his efforts benefit an astonishing array of organizations. For his outstanding support of youth, and his tireless dedication to so many community service activities, Fairfax Resolves is proud to recognize Larry McKinley as the 2010 Citizen of the Year.

Eagle Scout Scholarship Awarded

Fairfax Resolves was proud to award Michael Lazear with the Eagle Scout Scholarship Award in a ceremony held at Michael’s house in December. His winning essay was titled “Declaration of Independence: Past and Present.”
